Pierre McGuire

Rumors have been swirling regarding whether TSN analyst Pierre McGuire could be in line to be named the next GM of the Ottawa Senators.

McGuire's resume includes:

- Two Stanley Cups as a scout and assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1991 and 1992.
- Hartford Whalers assistant coach
- Hartford Whalers assistant general manager.
- Head coach of Hartford in 1993, leading the team to a 23-37-7 record.
- From 1994 to 1996, he was a pro scout and assistant coach for the Ottawa Senators.

This whole situation reminds me alot of when John Davidson was hired by the St. Louis Blues in 2006.  Davidson was a colour analyst for MSG, and was hired as President of Hockey Operations by the Blues.  He had no prior NHL executive experience prior to accepting this job.

This sure would be a 'ballsy' move by the Ottawa Senators organization, but quite frankly, I think we could benefit from 'ballsy' right about now.  What Pierre McGuire might lack in recent experience, he obviously more than makes up for with energy, charisma and intelligence.

He has a wealth of connections in the hockey world, including legend Scotty Bowman.  He has a seemingly encyclopedic knowledge of NHL prospects.  Also, with his personality and charisma would seem to have a much better chance of attracting potential free agents to Ottawa (something that has been a problem in the past).

It's just a wild rumour for now, but sign me up to the Pierre McGuire bandwagon.  I'm tired of, and done with Bryan Murray.... he's lost my trust that he is capable of doing what's right for this franchise.  This is a very important moment in this club's history.  It needs to think outside the box, and Pierre McGuire is exact that.

Love it, or hate it, but that's the truth.

Note:  GM Bryan Murray will address the media Wednesday in an 'informal' press conference.  There is no indication as to the subject matter, although he will be just returning from the WJC in Buffalo.
